Tank Sump
I welded this sump in my friend Mark's '69 Chevelle. The process is pretty basic. Instead of cutting a huge square our of the bottom of the tank you cut 5 2.5-inch holes. For this I used a plasma cutter because a hole saw was just not working very well on the uneven sheet metal; it often bucked and caught badly. I then hammered the sump to the basic shape of the tank. For the tight bends I welded the high parts hammered the lows to fill the gap like you see on the rear most section of the sump. It's a great idea to test it's seal with water so it's easy to repair if there is a leak. Yes, there was a leak, it happens! A quick zap and it was gone.
