Fab Shop : Trans Tunnel

This is for a 67 Nova I had done a lot of work on at Dominator. The owner had attempted to do some work himself so this is generally what you start out with when people before you get trigger happy with the cut off wheel. I would have liked to start this with no cuts made yet.

I started with a pre-cut hole for a  tremec 5-speed

Thinking I could just make a smooth rounded tunnel and maybe clearance it for the shifter plate I made this piece on the slip roller and tacked it in place with the TIG welder

Since the clearance was so bad I needed to start over. I made a piece of 16 gauge steel with 2 1" radius bends in a v shape but not so dramatic that the 2 bends intersect.

I cut at the start of the radius on the top surface then a v out of the radius to pinch the last 8 inches in

I then made a piece to bring the first half down to the stock floor. It is tricky to blend a square piece to a round one

I cut a hole out for the shifter just big enough to allow the engine to torque over

I fabricated a shifter body enclosure since the shifter hangs off the side of the transmission so much. Welded with TIG welder and ground down smooth

This is the finished product.
