April 2010
Before this trackday, I had only ridden Streets of Willow, twice back in '08 with my old GSXR 600, and once in '09 with my CBR 1000. The first session out I felt pretty lost, each time I took a turn it felt like I had never seen the track before. I didn't set out on the very first session with the parade lap, which I think I should have. Second time out for me was a whole different story. Before I set out I studied the map and just tried to remember when the slow turns were so I knew I could blast into all the others. This worked very well. The last sessions I rode Justen's '07 GSXR 1000 with all sorts of suspension goodies and some non DOT race slicks. Good thing I didn't go out on my 2CT tires after that, I got spoiled!

My favorite spots on the track was Sunset, the first turn after the straight, The Sweeper, Lost Hill, Grapevine, Cotton Corner, and the final turns before the straight that include Offramp and Sunrise. If you take all these turns and put them together, basically you're looking at Streets of Willow. From what I've heard about Big Willow, Buttonwillow is a mix of Big and Streets of Willow. I personally like the flip flop technical turns more than the high speed sweepers. They just dont do anything for me. I've never been one to use the straight for anything but passing if I need to. That's just me though. If you like Big Willow, and not Streets, you'll have a hard time with the tight stuff.

See below for the configuration and direction we ran for this trackday.
