This track day was awesome.
I made some changes for this race including rear anti-roll bar delete and the installation of new driver’s seat and belts. I did not really notice the difference with the sway bar out but I noticed a HUGE difference with the seat.
The trip started a drive up the trailer around 1pm Wednesday. I used a different trailer this time and was very happy with it. I hooked up the trailer, loaded the car and tied it down myself it was very easy to work with. Yves and I drove up to Willows Ca soon after loading the car and made sure to do a lot of relaxing and eating before an early night to prepare for the day. We woke in time to get a great spot for the truck next to the overhang where the cars park. The wind was pretty harsh in the morning so we stayed in the truck until as late as possible.
This brings us to my first run. I took it easy on the track, getting a feel of it first before I go all out. I notice right away the difference in the seat and it is really like driving a different car. By the second session I was able to get the car to under-steer in turn 2 where before I couldn’t even push it fast enough to get the tires to squeal.
I drove 3 sessions with Yves when I asked Jerry, an instructor, if he would ride with me. He agreed and we were off. I drove a very careful line and tried not to throw any turns away due to under-steer. Jerry’s response to my driving made me feel great. I am trying to get a hold of him to try and get a little note from him I can add to this. Basically he just said I drove so smooth and great, and that he was very surprised. I got a lot of praise for my driving today which is the best feeling in the world for me.
The next steps with the Camaro would be to set it up with more camber and at some point stickier tires. I am going to put in my new BeCool shocks who’s adjusters are on the bottom of the shock so I can adjust it more easily. I think my shocks now are too stiff but I could not adjust them at the track.
